5 Questions to Ask Yourself When Hiring an Electrician

Are you looking to hire an electrician for your residential or business electrical needs? On the bare minimum, you are looking for quality workmanship, fair pricing, and honesty. There is a better way than a trial and error method. The best way to sieve through the many electrical companies and choose the best is to ask these questions.

1. Is the electrician licensed?

You will need to verify that the electrical contractor has a valid electrical contractor's license. This is the surest indication that the electrician has gone through the requisite education and is qualified for the job. An unlicensed electrician will not be subject to any regulations, and you will not hold them responsible when things go wrong.

2. How many years of experience does the electrician have?

If you have to trust someone with an electrical appliance repair, you must be confident in their expertise. In this field, experience is everything; holding a license does not imply proficiency. An experienced technician is a better bet than someone who is just starting.

3. Is the electrician/company responsive?

Any company that offers electrical services has to be reasonably responsive, with some even having technicians check in on weekends. This is important because an electric fault would happen on any day, any time for example. Voice prompts, and a series of unanswered calls will be bad in a situation of such urgency. You will go for a company that has real people on standby to answer to calls and respond to emails.

4. Is there a warranty?

A good electrician should offer a warranty. And be sure to know for how long the warranty will be in force. Warranty is a show of trust for the after-service work. Lack of warranty gives you no guarantee of quality service.

5. What are their prices?

Fair pricing is important; being overcharged regardless of the quality of service is bad any day. The best way to go about this is to request for a fixed quote before the commencement of the electrical works. This will prevent the electrician introducing some other charges that you did not agree on in the middle of the project.

When it comes to hiring an electrician, you must be armed with this basic information beforehand. A company that is not responsive and has no history of completing projects similar to yours will not deliver as you desire. Insist on professionalism as this will steer you away from pitfalls in the course of your project.
